On 11th May 2014, The Dark Dictator was born. I sit here trying to think of what to say because to be honest, I didn't think I'd still be here a year on. I have a lot of commitments and time is becoming scarce but blogging for me, has become a part of my life. An important part.
A year ago, I was nervous, awkward and a little terrified when I first considered to start my own book blog. Books mean everything to me, they are the bane of my existence. Before I stumbled upon the book blogging community, I barely shared my thoughts about books. It was just something I did. None of my family members were active readers, my friends barely show an interest in books (until now that is after my book pushing skills) so it was just me. Little ol' me caught up in all my bookish feels and thoughts.
To discover a place where hundreds of people openly share their love and thoughts about books and reading, I thought I found a goldmine. I wanted to do more than tweet about books I've read or bought, I wanted to become a part of an incredible community who felt the same strong passion for books like I did. So I pushed away the panic and finally created The Dark Dictator.
People have asked me where did the name originate from, and to this I sit here smiling stupidly. The name lit up like Christmas lights in my head when I decided to start a book blog. I knew what I was going to call it. It's funny because most book bloggers blog name's are related to books in some way. Mine wasn't. I wanted it to be a reflection of me as well. My non-bookish side. Somewhere I could share my love for books as well as be my normal crazy, awkward self who plans to become Earth's Overlord.
So I used to play trading card games, and one card from a specific set, had a character named The Dark Dictator. I was a little too attached to the card and the name stuck with me until I decided it was perfect for my blog name. It just worked.
I look back now, and think about how far I've come. I've met so many awesome people and made so many new friends which I'm thankful for! New authors, new friends, new books and a community I fit into. What more could I ask for? I discovered UKYA, attended the first ever UKYA Extravaganza and YALC! So much has happened in a year and I've grown to love blogging so much, it just makes me really happy!
Thanks to blogging, I've also have come out of my shell more! Everyone is just so friendly and welcoming, there was no need to feel so nervous or afraid! Thanks to blogging, I was able to read some FANTASTIC books I probably would never have discovered on my own! There's a lot I have to be thankful for. This has been a great year and I really hope it's the first of many blogoversaries!
Thank you to publishers, authors, friends, fellow bloggers and all my followers who have kindly supported me since I started book blogging. I especially want to thank Lucy (Queen of Contemporary) whose amazing blog inspired me to start my own!
And huge thank you to the readers who spare a moment of their day to read my blog posts! It means a lot to me. It really does.
